The artist and the impossible Aussie dream?
Australia Day is tomorrow and I’m dreaming a big vision. I will have a commercial studio and be able to make a living with my artist pursuits. I’ll be able to give up my day job. The ultimate dream is to create honest work. The sustainable dream is to get paid for what you have a passion for so it never feels like work. Most say Australia is a ‘lucky country’....

Viral and social network marketing
In the hot little hands of your consumer you have the power to influence their choices and hold captive the infamous static tech savvy market. Forget the street billboards…target iPhone users and other scurrilous modern mobile technology. E-commerce has come a long way baby and it has nothing to do with Fat Boy Slim. Or does it? Say you got him as your celebrity endorsement for a new pair...

Lady in red.
Colour play is a timeless art and without noticing you and your intelligent psyche are subliminally influenced. I love red. It is a power colour. Studies have shown that it’s the first color babies recognize, and one that continues to appeal to most people throughout their childhood and into their adult lives. Mother nature uses it in combination with yellow to tell other creatures to...

Support my dream: 'I want to work for a music...
I love music and design. I really want to work for a music label making beautiful design/s while listening to great music. I am not often narcissistic. I have volunteered for many social causes and given my marketing and design sense towards not-for-profit. Please beautiful universe send to me a brief like this…

Want to understand the difference between the way female consumer and male consumer’s brains work? “Think of the floor layout at Swedish furniture behemoth IKEA”, is the provocative suggestion of Jane Waterhouse, managing director of specialist female marketing company Sister Communications. Xavier Rudd interview: Thunder and Lighting
Sometimes I do music journalism. Here is a sample… IN BETWEEN recording and touring album number six Koonyum Sun, I chatted with Xavier Rudd about making music from the heart, surfing and his friendship with South African players Tio Moloantoa and percussionist Andile Nqubezelo (Izintaba). XAVIER RUDD TALKS ABOUT THE WAVES AND THE SPIRIT BEHIND HIS MUSIC In your time off I hear...

Early on sunny Spring Sunday morning I migrated my bleary eyed self to Cowper St, Footscray to participate in the AGDA Back To Basics print workshop. Melbourne Museum of Printing (MMOP) is a working museum of typography and printing. I really love being ‘hands on’ with my design discipline and although we did not create individual pieces ‘the AGDA collective’ learnt how...

Design branding for drinking
A debate developed this week about marketing beer to the ‘Y’ generation in my office this week. This makes sense as my current client is within the alcoholic beverage industry. I started researching this stream of debate and found some very interesting results. Australia’s buying power has shifted to the fickle nature of generation Y and no major brand has successfully catered to...
